TRC readies symposium on how
to turn tech ideas into businesses

The Technology Resource Center (TRC) is preparing a symposium on how to turn new technology concepts into viable, profitable and successful businesses.

TRC Director General Dennis L. Cunanan said this Idea-to-Liquidity Technology Symposium slated at the Philippine Trade Training Center on Tuesday, Feb. 23 could make Filipino proponents of new technologies become entrepreneurs and captains of today’s technology-driven industry.

“This symposium for aspiring and practicing ‘techno-preneurs’ will help them understand the various aspects and requirements of technology commercialization, and how to take advantage of the world’s fast expanding market for technology-based businesses,” Cunanan explained.

“Thus, the Idea-to-Liquidity Technology Symposium will enable them to make informed decisions every step of the way to bringing their commerciable technology concepts into actually and lucratively operating businesses,” Cunanan added.

Among the topics to be discussed are the Philippine Science & Technology Infrastructure and Innovation System with Senate Science & Technology Committee chair Sen. Eduardo J. Angara as speaker ; Accelerating Innovation will be discussed by DOST USEC Fortunato T. dela Peña; techno-preneurship leader and businessman Cecilio S. Pedro will speak on Investing in Technology-Based Enterprises: Concepts & Issues – the what, why, when, and how of establishing a business, and the issues and concerns for technology-based business start-ups; Technology Commercialization, The TRC Way will be expounded on by TRC Dir. Gen. Cunanan.

Four topics on Technology Partnering Opportunities -- Irradiation Technology, the Future of Nano Technology, Innovative Enterprises in the Making, and Mobile Technology Applications -- will be discussed by a panel of experts in the of this one-day Symposium. The last topic for the day will covered by another panel of speakers who will expound on Financing Your Technology – venture capitalism, angel investors, and government and private finance institutions.

The Technology Symposium forms part of the Tech Technology Partnering Forum (TechForum) 2010 slated in the same venue on Feb. 22-24 to mark TRC’s 33rd year of promoting technology development as a means to boost business and national productivity.

The other components of TechForum 2010 are the Technology Showcase featuring exhibits of research and development institutes as well as public and private academic institutions; and the student-focused Innovation Opportunity Camp and TeknoBiz Idea Challenge. All activities are guaranteed to turn this historic occasion into a technology festival of wide-ranging proportion.

Expected to attend the TechForum are proponents of new technologies in various fields, venture capitalists, economic developers, seed investors, academic institutions, the engineering and science education communities, and public and private non-profit research institutes.
“Technology commercialization experts and corporate licensing executives will also be around to lend their expertise to participants from around the country and abroad,” Cunanan said.

Interested participants in the Technology Symposium may fill out and submit their registration forms online www.trctechforum.com, or download the form and fax them to 721.0094.
