Contest Rules
A. Eligibility
This contest is open to all Filipinos age 16 and above,
who are either (a) residing in the Phiilippines or (b) Filipino
citizens who are residing overseas, and who are not published
writers or professional journalists.
B. Theme and Content
1. The essay must be original, not previously published in
print or online, and shall be within 1,000 to 1,500 words
in English.
2. The theme for the contest is: "Filipino
Nationalism in the Age of Globalization."
C. Submission
1. Only one submission per person will be accepted.
2. Start of submission will be on June 15, 2002, via
the official Essay Writing Contest website located at the
following url: http://www.philippinestoday.net/essay2002/.
The deadline of submission will be on September 15, 2002.
No entries will be accepted post-deadline.
3. Entries may be withdrawn at any time. However, previously
withdrawn entries may only be reaccepted once. All entries
will be considered property of Philippines Today.
4. All entries will be posted online starting from September
16, 2002, and will be available for public viewing until
November 30, 2002.
5. Valid entries should include the completion and submission
of the Entry Form available in the website. Each applicant
must submit a valid email and postal address for correspondence.
6. Each entry submitted must be the work of one person and
may not be the collective work of more than one person. By
submitting an entry, applicants certify that their essays
are original, authored solely by them and do not infringe
upon the rights of any third parties.
D. Criteria for Judging
1. Entries will be judged anonymously by a panel of judges
selected and approved by the Philippines Today Editorial team.
2. Entries will be judged according to the following criteria:
2.1 Substance and originality: 50%
2.2 Writing style, composition and organization:
50%
3. The winning essay will be announced at the PT website
by December 15, 2002. The winner will be awarded a
cash prize of P10,000.00, and a Certificate of Appreciation.
E. Others
1. All essays submitted may be used or published in whole
or in part by Philippines Today or by other parties with its
written permission. Philippines Today reserves the right not
to publish any essay it deems inappropriate for any reason.
2. Philippines Today reserves the right not to award a prize
or any prizes where submissions do not meet contest standards
or criteria.
