Water interruption is part of preparation for wide effects of El Nino -–Palace

MANILA, Sept. 29 (PNA) – Malacanang said on Tuesday the extended water interruption is part of the water conservation in anticipation of the possible wide effects of the El Nino phenomenon.

”Due to the possible wide effects of El Nino, water interruption is part of the process being implemented to ensure that there will be proper allocation of water and that there will be enough supply of water going towards the summer months,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr.

Maynilad, one of the two water concessionaires in Metro Manila, has announced that water interruption will be extended to 20 hours each day.

Coloma assured that the government is addressing the extended water interruption.

”Government is looking into this matter. We should note, however, that conservation of water is everyone’s concern,” he said.

Last month, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast that the approaching El Nino, which is already hitting some provinces, will be among the strongest, if not the strongest.

The weather bureau predicted that the full impact of the El Nino will be felt towards the end of the year and early months of next year. (PNA)
