DIFFUN, Quirino, May 24 (PNA) — The municipal government of Diffun in Quirino province has enacted an ordinance prohibiting smoking in public places and conveyances here.
Diffun Mayor Marlo Guillermo said the ordinance, which was unanimously approved by the municipal council and signed by him, bans smoking in gas stations, banks, malls, shopping or business arcades, transport terminals, schools, churches, hospitals, gymnasiums, barber shops, waiting sheds, recreational facilities, and town squares.
The prohibition also includes public conveyances such as jeepneys, tricycles, vans, buses, motorcycles and other public utility vehicles, he added.
The violators will be meted PhP500 fine or one-month imprisonment, or both at the discretion of the court, for the first offense.
For the second offense, at least PhP1,000 fine or two-month imprisonment, or both at the discretion of the court, will be imposed.
A fine of PhP2,500 or four-month imprisonment, or both at the discretion of the court, will be imposed for third or succeeding offenses. (PNA)
