MANILA, May 6 (PNA) – For failing to reveal his right shoulder injury for his fight against undefeated Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao has reportedly been named in a USD 5 million class-action lawsuit, according to websites and news reports.
According to time.com, Stephane Vanel and Kami Rahbaran filed the lawsuit before the Las Vegas U.S. District Court, “on behalf of all persons who purchased tickets; purchased the pay per view event and who wagered money on the event.”
The complainants claimed Pacquiao and his handlers failed to disclose his shoulder injury to the Nevada Athletic Commission prior to his so-called ‘Fight of the Century’ against last May 2 in Las Vegas.
The two claimed also damages for those who “were victimized by [the] Defendants’ failure to disclose and to cover up the injuries of Defendant Pacquiao.”
Also named in the lawsuit were Pacquiao’s promotion company Top Rank Inc. and president Todd DuBoef, adviser Michael Koncz and promoter Bob Arum as defendants.
Pacquiao’s manager Michael Koncz reportedly owned up his mistake when he inadvertently wrote ‘no’ to box questioning a boxer whether he acquired injury prior to the fight.
“I checked it. It was just an inadvertent mistake,” Konzc said.
Due to Koncz’s mistake, the Nevada commission did not allow Pacquiao to undergo treatment priority to his fight because “it was unaware of Manny’s shoulder injury.”
Pacquiao lost via unanimous decision to Mayweather.
Pacquiao is reportedly set to undergo surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff on his right shoulder.
Mayweather reportedly agreed to give Pacquiao a rematch once the Filipino fighter’s injury is completely healed. (PNA)
