CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, April 25 (PNA) — The Samar provincial government has set aside PHP10 million for the promotion and development of the local tourism industry.
Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan Santos thanked the provincial board for approving the supplemental budget to finance stronger local tourism industry campaign.
“Majority of the provincial board members supported the initiative. It was not hard for us to undergo the process we have to pass through in order to achieve what we have today because of their cooperation, Tan said.
Santos is optimistic that their campaign will now make waves and will be sustained in the future.
“I know that Yolanda paved the way for the province to be known in the national level because of the devastation it sustained, but we don’t want another Yolanda to happen for us to be known, thus we are pushing for the promotion of our tourism industry,” Tan said.
Vice Governor Stephen James Tan said the provincial board already allocated funds for the tourism programs of the province last year. However, the governor requested for PHP2 million additional budget.
The amount was used for the purchase of boats, multicabs and funds for training of the personnel in the tourism sector, as well as for the launching of “Summer sa Samar”.
Last week, the local government launched “Summer Sa Samar” with activities such as extreme boat ride and bird watching in Paranas town, Sohoton Cave in Basey town and the beautiful beaches in Marabut town. (PNA)
