ORMOC CITY, March 3 (PNA) — Officials of Energy Development Corp. (EDC), Kananga-EDC Institute of Technology (Keitech), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority led the signing of a memorandum of agreement with mayors to formalize Keitech’s extension of services to 13 towns in Leyte and Eastern Samar.
Keitech now accepts residents from outside Ormoc City and Kananga town as recipients, that used to be the priority areas.
It has started training residents from the municipalities of Barugo, Burauen, Capoocan, Carigara, Dagami, Dulag, Jaro, Julita, La Paz, Mac Arthur, Mayorga, Tabontabon and Tunga, all in Leyte as well as Lawaan and Guiuan in Eastern Samar.
A total of 1,080 residents from the 13 municipalities, Ormoc and Kananga will benefit from the enhanced single qualification skills training offered by Keitech.
Trainees can choose from the following short-term (three months) courses namely carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation and maintenance, plus another week of training in basic masonry and welding.
The short-term courses began in April 2014 with the first two batches coming from Ormoc and Kananga, and the third batch from the additional 13 towns. Keitech targets to enroll nine batches for one year. Currently training is the fourth batch which is scheduled to finish on March 20 this year.
So far, 185 of the 285 graduates have been employed in construction projects in Tacloban and Ormoc Cities as well as Isabel town.
Keitech is a world-class technical-vocation training center operated by EDC with its campus located in Aguiting, Kananga town. (PNA)
