MANILA, Feb. 13 (PNA) – Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. on Friday assured that the government is fully equipped to prevent the spread of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) disease in the country.
”The government is intensifying efforts to guard all ports of entry such as airports and sea ports,” Coloma said in a press statement.
According to the Department of Health (DoH), Coloma said there is only one confirmed MERS-CoV case in the country, which is the Filipina nurse aboard the Saudi Airlines Flight 860, who is currently confined at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
”The 11 individuals admitted at the RITM have exhibited signs and symptoms of the MERS-CoV disease but initial laboratory results were negative,” Coloma said.
He said the RITM will continue to conduct further tests to ensure that these patients are free of the MERS-CoV disease. (PNA)
