TACLOBAN CITY, Sept 2 (PNA) — Members of the Leyte Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPPOC) and other stakeholders expressed their commitment to achieve lasting peace in the province by signing the covenant for peace on Monday.
The covenant signing, held during the special meeting of the PPOC, was part of the activities to kick off the Peace Month celebration this September.
The celebration kicked off Monday with the recitation of the pledge for peace during the flag raising ceremonies in every local government unit in the province.
Aside from the signing and pledge for peace, 802nd brigade commander, Col. Dinoh A. Dolina said that they have tied up with other institutions in the province that are willing to join even as they are still firming up other activities for the celebration.
He explained that the celebration will “serve as opportunity to talk of ways and positive ways to achieve peace in Leyte.”
Dolina added that during the International Day for Peace this September 21, they are still trying to finalize the staging of either run for peace, bike for peace or walk for peace.
The month-long celebration he said will culiminate with a simultaneous candle-lighting ceremony in the afternoon of September 30 in every LGU and provincial government of Leyte.
This year’s celebration anchors on the theme “Nagkakaisang Bayan para sa Kapayapaan.” (PNA)
