CATBALOGAN CITY, Aug 25 (PNA) — The city government here has gone full-swing with the construction of temporary shelters for its constituents currently staying in evacuation centers after being displaced by typhoon Glenda, according to Mayor Stephanie Uy-Tan.
The city government has allotted P2 million for the project that is situated at Villa Paula Subdivision in Guinsorongan village.
Tan expressed gladness after the landowner of the subdivision allowed the city government the temporary use of the property while they are still scouting for a secured area for the permanent housing project.
Prior the decision to establish the temporary shelters at the Villa Paula Subdivision, the city government also inspected other sites to include lots along the city diversion road in San Andres village.
Some 78 families that are still staying in evacuation centers will be prioritized in the selection of beneficiaries and are expected to transfer by first week of September.
Typhoon Glenda displaced some 586 families whose houses were mostly situated near the seawall and coastal areas of the city. No death was reported though.
The lady mayor added that the city government will start a feeding program at the site once the evacuees have already settled at the temporary housing facility. The feeding program is supported by Catbalognons in the United States. (PNA)
