LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Aug. 6 (PNA) –- The city government, through a direct order from Mayor Roderick “Dondon” Alcala, is now strictly implementing a No Parking policy along Quezon Avenue, the main thoroughfare in this city.
Executive Assistant II, also acting as Traffic Management Action Officer Arnel Avila, appealed for the cooperation of all motorists to heed the mayor’s order of not parking along Quezon Avenue to Gov. Leon Guinto Street – almost one kilometer stretch – from 7.00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Avila said they started to implement this policy today August 6, although they are still on warning phase of the road policy. They posted police trainees in every block to warn and remind motorists about the No Parking scheme.
Public and private vehicles can only load or unload passengers but being stationary – even for five minutes – is strictly prohibited.
He added they will strictly impose the traffic regulation next month, when they have purchased new tire lock machines they will use for violators.
Avila avers that the scheme aims to decongest the main road on school days and he confirmed this traffic rule is backed up by an ordinance approved few years back by the members of the city council.
If tire locked, a vehicle owner shall pay a fine of P500. “If this traffic scheme for Quezon Avenue is successful, with the cooperation of all Lucenahins, we will also implement it along C.M. Recto St., a secondary road traversing the frontage of the public market which is always congested,” Avila concluded. (PNA)
