ORMOC CITY, July 25 (PNA) — Mayor Doroteo Palconit of Calubian, Leyte on Friday disclosed that all residents in Barangay Obispo, one kilometer away from the town proper, will be relocated following a landslide Thursday due to rains.
He said the landslide affected the whole village of some 100 households and were advised by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) to be permanently relocated.
The MGB in Region 8 confirmed that the rains Thursday caused the soil, within one- to two-kilometer radius, to loosen and erode very slowly that also caused the village road to bulge.
It advised that the residents should immediately vacate the village as the soil movement is unpredictable.
In 1997, the soil in this area moved three meters down and now it further moved down causing damages to some houses.
There was no report of casualty nor injury.
Mayor Palconit further said that nine families have already evacuated to the town and the LGU provided them food.
He considered relocating all residents but still at a loss on where to resettle them. (PNA)
