Basketball invitational tourney kicks off in Tokyo


The Philippine Association for Common Cause (PACC) launched its 4th Basketball Invitational Tournament at the Edogawa-ku Sports Center in Nishikasai, Edogawa-ku, Tokyo on August 4. A record number of 12 teams participated from metropolitan Tokyo and the adjacent Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama and Ibaraki Prefectures.

Among them were Antipolo Restaurant of Kawaguchi City, Saitama pref., represented by Ariel Solares; Famiulle T from Asakusa, Tokyo, represented by Jon de Leon; Global/Viva Cargo from Ibaraki Pref. represented by Bong Protestante; Knights from Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Pref. represented by Jhun Noel Cuico; Ilocandia from Matsudo City, Chiba Pref. represented by Carlo Pascua; Sanfabia Cargo Services from Kinshi-cho, Tokyo, represented by Boyet Paranis; Shalom Christian Fellowship from Nerima, Tokyo, represented by Armand Borromeo; Tambayan KTU Red from Kinshi-cho, led by Rodel Reyes; Tambayan KTU White from Kinshi-cho, led by George Ojeda; Tobita Black from Kinshi-cho, led by Chris Vostech; Tobita Red from Kinshi-cho, led by Slim Padilla; Tomjie Forwarders from Chiba, led by Bernard Jun Chua.

Among those that financially supported this event were Metrobank Tokyo Branch, Glamour People, Wood One Co. and Viva Cargo Services.

Proceeds of this event will go partly to Bantay Bata 163, in line with PACC’s social objective to help the poor. PACC is organized informally as a camaraderie group recognizing itself “as one Filipino in a foreign land”. Its core members include Andy Fabia Jr., Jaime Lumba, Jimmy Patricio, Ken Labrador, Rey Realista, Richard Manalo, Garizaldy Tan, Danny Cruz, Connel James Copas, Jamie Realista, Linda Yamauchi, Haidee Bautista, Eleonor Manalac, Analiza Patricio, Kikuo Ikusawa and Susan Kawakami as the project coordinator. *

 

Bowling tourney set on October 6

PHILIPPINES TODAY is hosting a bowling tournament at Daiwas Land in Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Pref. on October 6 from 2:00 PM.

There will be group and individual awards for the top players in the event.

Proceeds will be divided as welfare fund for the group of Filipino workers in Ibaraki, led by Antonio Hernandez, and for the Ibaraki Christian Center (ICC), a non-denominational Christian fellowship shepherded by Rev. Nemesio Barro of the Japan Alliance Mission. *

 

Franciscan chapel center to hold fall bazaar

The Franciscan Chapel Center will hold a fall bazaar on October 19 and 20 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Chapel Center in Roppongi.

This year’s selection of clothing for men and women of all ages are of good quality and reasonably priced. Shoes, jewelry, white elephant items, books and toys will also be available.

A boutique will offer a fine selection of women’s clothing. There will also be an instant raffle draw. A coffee shop will provide an assortment of baked goods as well as cold drinks and Philippine food.

The bazaar will be held indoors to allow shoppers to browse and shop in comfort regardless of the weather. The address is 4-2-37 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. For more information, please call 03-3401-2141.*
