Three Filipino professors boost University of Tsukuba faculty

For the first time in its history, the state-run University of Tsukuba has invited three Filipino professors to boost its faculty lineup this year.

Renowned historian, textbook author and a former dean at the University of the Philippines - Diliman, Leslie Bauzon is presently teaching at the Area Studies Department of the university.

Maria Rosario Piquero-Ballescas, the first Filipino doctorate graduate of the university, is making a homecoming to her alma mater as a member of the faculty. A former Monbusho scholar, Piquero has published her research on such subjects as the Filipino entertainment industry in Japan and street children.

Primitivo C. Cal is a visiting professor at the Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences . He is on sabbatical leave from the UP School of Urban and Regional Planning. *

 

 

 

Tourism office launches Visit Philippines 2003

The Department of Tourism through its attaché office in Tokyo will officially launch the Visit the Philippines Year 2003 Campaign and present the Volunteer 12 Program at the Prominence Room, B1 of ANA Hotel Tokyo on September 29 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

The Visit Philippines 2003 is a major promotional campaign that will showcase the best of Philippine Tourism with the aim of bringing 3 million foreign visitors to the country next year. Meanwhile, the Volunteer 12 is an innovative program that seeks to encourage all overseas Filipinos to bring at least one tourist to the Philippines a month or 12 a year.

Tourism Secretary Richard J. Gordon will lead the launch and the presentation that will also involve the local government officials and members of the Philippine travel trade and media. Filipino celebrities and entertainers will spice up the afternoon program by gracing the event. Major prizes will also be raffled off to lucky winners.
