Relaxing
your way to better health
STRESS-related illnesses have become more common and widespread
as the cost of living skyrockets at breakneck speed. More and more
people have become susceptible to the tension and strain brought
about by the daily pressures of the industrialized world. High blood
pressure, heart and lung disorders, migraines and anxiety are only
but a few of the illnesses that can result from too much stress.
However, all of these diseases can be easily avoided if people
relax or take a break from their routine once in a while. Unfortunately,
in our fast-paced world, finding the time to relax has undoubtedly
become one of life's greatest pursuits.
In the past decade, relaxation has become synonymous to vacations
that span weeks or expensive escapades to white sandy beaches. Although
a change of scenery is a favorable choice in relaxing, it obviously
cannot be the sole option for everyone to take. After all, the rigors
of hectic schedules and endless streams of deadlines prevent us
from leaving our workplaces even for a few days.
Fortunately, one does not need to pay a high price or go to such
length to attain relaxation. Furthermore, finding time to relax
should not be a frustrating endeavor.
A few minutes off work each day is all it takes to soothe and relax
tired limbs in preparation for the long hours ahead. More so, your
body uses less energy while in a relaxed state, thereby decreasing
the amount of work that is done by your heart, lungs, and brain.
It is also important that you have a regular amount of time each
day to devote to relaxing tired muscles.
Relaxation may either be "active" or "passive"
depending on the person's preference. "Active" relaxation
involves exercises, breathing techniques and meditation. Listening
to music, on the other hand, is a form of "passive" relaxation.
Aside from decreasing certain health risks, relaxation also promotes
and improves efficiency at work. By relaxing once in a while, you
are not only giving your mind and body an opportunity to recover
from stress but also rewarding yourself with a better, healthier
life.
