Submitting to God's will
Submitting to God is often the hardest of all tasks yet it is the
most necessary if we are to be exalted to fellowship with God and
enjoy the highest development of our facilities and powers.
Selfishness always tends to degrade- its exercise tends to dwarf
and blight the finest things in our character. The more our souls
run out Godward, the more like Him the happier we become, and the
more useful we are. Unselfish devotion to a kind, generous service
toward God and our fellowmen enriches the heart and life as nothing
else can do and leads the way to happiness, peace and contentment
which makes one truly blessed.
What is submission to God? It is our will acting with God instead
of against Him. The submitted will is an active, vital, powerful
will acting in conjunction with God's will and directed by His will.
It is not that we losing our will, but it is turning our will into
the right channels so that we shall desire God's will. It joins
our strength with God's strength and being directed by him into
the most effective channels, it can accomplish what would be not
possible for it to accomplish without being surrendered. Our will
should speak only after God's will speaks, it should echo the same
thing. Thus shall we become workers together with God in the accomplishment
of His Grand and glorious purpose.
Contrast Man's will. It is naturally selfish--not easy to submit
to the will of another without strong motive that implies it to
submit. Man loves to have his own way.
God's Will is never selfish--always benevolent, kind, helpful,
generous.
Why is it necessary to follow and God's will?
Paves the way for the development of man's five qualities within
us, which are most worth developing and which enable us most when
they are developed.
The more like Him we become when our souls run out Godward, the
happier and more useful we are to the church--to the community and
to God.
Unselfish devotion to benevolent service toward God and toward
men enriches the heart and life as nothing else can do and leads
the way to happiness, peace and contentment which makes one truly
blessed.
The more fully we are submitted to His will the more we can do
it cheerfully and the sweeter and richer will be the joy. Reluctant
obedience to God is never real obedience.
When the heart responds to God willingly and cheerfully, the power
of such service to make one happy is realized.
