Filipinos participate in Tsukuba International Festival
The Association of Filipino Scholars in Tsukuba (FAST) led
by its president Dennis Trinidad spearheaded the group of
Filipinos participating in the annual International Festival
hosted by Tsukuba City in Ibaraki Pref. on May 11 to 12.
Aside from a booth which showcased the Filipino students
culinary skills and the countrys export-quality products,
the students and visiting researchers also rendered a series
of folk dances that have traditionally captured the biggest
crowd in the foreigners presentation program. FAST has
presented in the festival for more than 10 consecutive years.
Tsukuba City is host to a big number of foreign residents
affiliated with the University of Tsukuba or the private and
public research institutes that mark this science city. Aside
from the participation of foreign residents, there are also
workshops and stage shows of local government offices that
promote Japanese culture. *
