PSJ 2002-2003 Board elected

PSJ president Noemi Oba meets with Educational Research and Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation president Fr. Pierre Tritz, S.J.

In a vote of confidence for the past year's officers, the Philippine Society in Japan, Nagoya practically re-elected its officers led by Noemi Oba, president and Doris Yokoi, VP, who are both serving their second term in their respective posts.

Below is the complete list of the PSJ Board of Directors: Noemi Oba, president; Doris Yokoi, VP; Jenny Igarashi, secretary; Nanette Fernandez, asst. secretary; Rose Fujiwara, treasurer; Joy Alota, asst. treasurer; and Fr Philip Muncada, SVD, auditor.

Committee chairpersons and their assistants (in parenthesis) are as follows: membership, Julius Kintanar (Romy Panopio); welfare, Larry Inigo (Karen Inigo); finance, Randy Alota (Charles Francisco); external affairs, Menjie Kobayashi (Jody Umali).

Induction has been scheduled on 26 May at the Mikokoro Center.

Plans are already being made for an Independence Day Fellowship Bowling Tournament and Raffle. Proceeds from this event will fund the PSJ's Nursery School project in Payatas (run through ERDA), which is now in its second year, and ABC Foundation's Eyeglasses for Needy Public High School Students Campaign.

Martin Nievera and Lani Misalucha captivate Filipinos in live Tokyo concert

After a five-year hiatus in his career in the wake of his much-talked about separation from Pops Fernandez, Martin Nievera proved himself to still be the Concert King when he packed the Shibuya Kokaido Hall with about a thousand Filipinos last May 4.

His team-up with Asia’s reigning singing queen Lani Misalucha proved to be a hit with the crowd. Aside from the usual repertoire of love songs, Martin regaled the crowd with his humorous ad lib on his estranged wife and a riotous mimicry of arch-rival Gary Valenciano.

Lani endeared the crowd with her hair-raising imitation of the singing voices of Pilita Corales, Kuh Ledesma, Sharon Cuneta, and Regine Velasquez.

Pops Fernandez also had a sold-out concert with the Side A Band in Tokyo last February.
