Vice-Consul Ruth Dilao graces FAST Induction of Officers

Vice-Consul Ruth Dilao (extreme right and inset) of the Philippine
Embassy inducted the incoming officers of the Association
of Filipino Scholars in Tsukuba (FAST) during their Annual
Induction and Sayonara Party on March Q at Friends International
Mart, Tsukuba Science City.
Vice-Consul Dilao spoke on the combination of opportunity
and determination as a formula for success when she gave an
inspirational message to the Monbusho scholars of the University
of Tsukuba and Ibaraki University. She also spoke of her experiences
as a young wife of a former Monbusho scholar in Kobe University
and how these have led her to her present post in the foreign
service.
Association of Filipino Scholars in Japan (AFSJ) president
Dean de los Reyes (right inset), who also attended the event,
exhorted his fellow students to share their numerous talents
and gifts for the service of their fellow Filipinos in Japan.
Inducted into office were (from right to left) Dennis Trinidad,
president; Angelito Turda, vice president (internal); Jon
Soriano, vice president (external); Ellen Taleon, secretary;
Danielle Guillen, treasurer; Day Lacap, auditor; Ruelyn Malaque,
business manager; and Efren Antimano, public information officer.
The presence of a consular officer in the induction ceremony
was a first in FAST's decades-long history. *
The Hunks slated to perform in Japan
The latest local boy-band sensation, The Hunks, is scheduled
to perform in Kannai Hall near Yokohama City in June this
year. The group is composed of young male actors Jericho Rosales,
Carlos Agassi, Piolo Pascual, Bernard Palanca and Diether
Ocampo. The venue can accommodate up to 1100 people. The project
is a cooperative effort between Melinda Paed Co and ABS-CBN,
the same tandem that brought the cast of Anak during its premiere
showing in Japan in July 2000.
