Vice-Consul Ruth Dilao graces FAST Induction of Officers

Vice-Consul Ruth Dilao (extreme right and inset) of the Philippine Embassy inducted the incoming officers of the Association of Filipino Scholars in Tsukuba (FAST) during their Annual Induction and Sayonara Party on March ‚Q at Friends International Mart, Tsukuba Science City.

Vice-Consul Dilao spoke on the combination of opportunity and determination as a formula for success when she gave an inspirational message to the Monbusho scholars of the University of Tsukuba and Ibaraki University. She also spoke of her experiences as a young wife of a former Monbusho scholar in Kobe University and how these have led her to her present post in the foreign service.

Association of Filipino Scholars in Japan (AFSJ) president Dean de los Reyes (right inset), who also attended the event, exhorted his fellow students to share their numerous talents and gifts for the service of their fellow Filipinos in Japan.

Inducted into office were (from right to left) Dennis Trinidad, president; Angelito Turda, vice president (internal); Jon Soriano, vice president (external); Ellen Taleon, secretary; Danielle Guillen, treasurer; Day Lacap, auditor; Ruelyn Malaque, business manager; and Efren Antimano, public information officer.

The presence of a consular officer in the induction ceremony was a first in FAST's decades-long history. *

The Hunks slated to perform in Japan

The latest local boy-band sensation, The Hunks, is scheduled to perform in Kannai Hall near Yokohama City in June this year. The group is composed of young male actors Jericho Rosales, Carlos Agassi, Piolo Pascual, Bernard Palanca and Diether Ocampo. The venue can accommodate up to 1100 people. The project is a cooperative effort between Melinda Paed Co and ABS-CBN, the same tandem that brought the cast of Anak during its premiere showing in Japan in July 2000.

For the latest public service announcements, listen to Ms. Joselin Kobayashi at InterFM-76.1 Mhz every Wednesdays, 12:45 pm and 7:55 pm.
