Medical and dental mission held
The Philippine Embassy, in cooperation with the Philippine
Assistance Group and the Organization for the Development
and Advancement of Negros-Japan, conducted a medical and dental
mission on February 24 at Edogawa-ku, Tokyo.
Two Filipino and two Japanese doctors, together with four
Filipino dentists, a nurse, a physical therapist and 18 volunteers
took part in the activity that benefited over 100 overstaying
and undocumented Filipinos in Japan. Western Union provided
some of the medicines that were distributed on that day.

STAC-J promotes science and technology in Japan
A group of Filipino Monbusho (Japanese Ministry of Education)
scholars and expatriates have organized themselves to promote
and support the upliftment of the science and technology of
the Philippines. Science and Technology Advisory Council (STAC)-Japan
is the lone active chapter of the STACs worldwide.
The incumbent president is Egay Aban, a Ph.D. student at Chiba
University with a major in Biology while its incumbent vice-president
is Ms. Tonet Tanchuling, who is another Ph.D. student at the
Tokyo Institute of Technology with major in environmental
engineering.
STAC-J's ongoing projects are Tuloy-Aral Center, Undergraduate
Research Grant, Database and Confab. Tuloy-Aral Center, or
TAC, is an ongoing literacy program of the Science and Technology
advisory Council-Japan (STAC-J) with the purpose of training
Filipino migrants in Japan in the areas of entrepreneurship
and computer technology. TAC-Kompyuter is its computer technology
training component. It was handled for a long time by Mr.
Arnold de Guzman who is an engineer in one prominent engineering
consultancy firm in Tokyo and is likewise the present treasurer
of the organization.
Students of this program include domestic helpers, entertainers,
construction workers, working professionals and Filipino Japanese
spouses. Open to all Filipinos, the program has helped more
than 500 Filipino migrants.
STAC-Japan is encouraging the formation of like-minded groups
in areas that are not presently served by the organization.

at the University of Tokyo with majorin civil engineering.
