Jehovah's
Witness to hold 3-day convention
To advocate the supremacy of God's Word at the onset
of the twenty-first century, Jehovah's Witnesses are organizing
three-day conventions this summer, with the theme "Teachers
of God's Word", to which millions will attend worldwide.
Thirty-two conventions in eight languages are scheduled
here in Japan. Among those languages will be Japanese, English,
Chinese, Korean, Cambodian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese sign
language. The English convention will be held on July 20 to 22 at
Chiba Assembly Hall in Taiei town, Chiba prefecture; approximately
30 minutes from Narita Airport. Last year people of 30 different
nationalities came from all over Japan to attend the English convention,
and this year, too, the number of those attending is estimated to
reach 1,500.
The convention program parts are designed to impress
upon those who attend the importance and rewards of becoming "Teachers
of God's Word" amid this turbulent world. The sessions include
the following:
July 20, Friday, features the Keynote Address, "Completely
Equipped as Teachers of God's Word" to be delivered at the
conclusion of the morning session. In the afternoon, the three-part
symposium "Teaching Ourselves While Teaching Others" will
stress the importance of practicing what one preaches in connection
with morality, personal Bible study, and the need to resist the
Devil's efforts to mislead us.
July 21, Saturday, will provide many programs that
focus on the need to follow Christ's example, such as "Finding
Refreshment Under Christ's Yoke" and "Imitate the Great
Teacher." The Christian baptism, one of the highlights of the
convention, will be another feature of the day.
July 22, Sunday, will present a full-costume Bible-based
drama about the rebellion of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram against the
God-given authority of Moses. Afterward, a talk will highlight the
message conveyed in the drama. The drama will interest not only
adults, but also children are sure to enjoy and benefit from it.
Jehovah's Witnesses are active in 235 lands worldwide,
now numbering more than six million, according to the statistics
from their 2001 Yearbook. The headquarters is in Brooklyn, New York.
