THE RULES of the game have changed. We are not bound by paper and
pen, by boundaries of land or sea, or by the limited number of printed
copies anymore. We are truly making history as Philippines Today
finally makes a debut into the cyberworld and claims a niche online.
On June 17, 2001, www.philippinestoday.net was born. This is the
ultimate realization of a vision -- that of reaching out to more
Filipinos, not only to those who are based in Japan, but to the
rest of the global community as well. Ten years ago this would not
have been possible. Today, with Philippinestoday.net, our online
experience begins.
In the span of merely two weeks since its initial posting, the
site was able to generate a total of 8482 hits--way beyond our expectations.
While the printed version already has a nationwide circulation in
Japan, the online version radically transcends geographical limitations
and enables Filipinos located in other parts of the world to experience
the magic that PT has to offer. This statistical figure has clearly
indicated that we are indeed reaching out to more people than we
could ever imagine.
Philippinestoday.net offers the same excellent content found in
the printed version, and with the addition of more thought-provoking
articles, stimulating discussions and interactive forums -- all
exclusive online! In this site we hope to establish a virtual community
for Filipinos in Japan and the rest of the world--a place where
we can interact and freely exchange ideas, share our insights and
learn from one another. The key is interactivity. Thus the site
features a "Talakayan" section--an online forum where
various issues of relevance can be liberally discussed by both readers
and writers alike. Comments and letters to the editor and columnists
can be instantaneously posted for public viewing. Online polls to
determine public opinion regarding certain issues may also be added.
Press releases and announcements of important events can be immediately
disseminated to the online public. It is our eventual hope that
Philippinestoday.net will become a rich source of information online,
and also emerge as a fast, virtual channel to voice the sentiments
of the Filipino community in Japan.
It is our pleasure to invite all avid readers of Philippines Today
to visit our site at www.philippinestoday.net. Make our site your
home!*
