In celebration of Philippine Independence, Philippines Today launches
a series of seminar-workshops that aim to share the gifts and talents
of Filipinos living in Japan to their compatriots. The workshop
series kicked off with Dr. Edward Barlaan's "Voice Improvement
Seminar" held at Friends International Mart in Tsukuba on June
9. A total of 15 participants attended.
Dr. Barlaan discussed the importance of voice improvement, voice
techniques, vocal expressions and styles, vocalization, and song
analysis.
"Filipinos by nature love to sing. Many want to improve their
voice, but because of limited knowledge, resources, means, opportunities
or relatively expensive training courses, they cannot make it. That
is why I decided to give this free workshop," he said.
Dr. Barlaan was a former member of the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong
Mang-aawit (OPM) and previously trained under Ryan Cayabyab's Music
Studio, the Greenhills Music Studio and the Center for Pop Music
Philippines. He is also a plant breeder on postdoctoral fellowship
in Tsukuba.
The next seminar-workshop will be on photography to be held in
August. Interested participants may call (0298) 58 3016 for details.
