Positive
thinking
JERRY is the manager of a restaurant in America. He is always
in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When
someone would ask him how he was doing, he would always reply,
"If I were any better, I would be twins!"
Many of the waiters at his restaurant quit their jobs when
he changed jobs, so they could follow him around from restaurant
to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because
of his attitude.
He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad
day, Jerry was always there, telling the employee how to look
on the positive side of the situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went
up to Jerry and asked him, "I don't get it! No one can
be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"
Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself,
I have two choices today. I can choose to be in a good mood
or I can choose to be in a bad mood. I always choose to be
in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose
to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I always
choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining,
I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out
the positive side of life. I always choose the positive side
of life."
"But it's not always that easy," I protested. "Yes,
it is," Jerry said "Life is all about choices. When
you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice.
You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people
will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or
bad mood. It's your choice how you live your life."
Several years later, I heard that Jerry accidentally did something
you are never supposed to do in the restaurant business: left
the back door of his restaurant open one morning and was robbed
by three armed men. While trying to open the safe, his hand,
shaking from nervousness slipped off the combination. The
robbers panicked and shot him.
Luckily, Jerry was found quickly and rushed to the hospital.
After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry
was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets
still in his body. I saw Jerry about six months after the
accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If
I were any better, I'd be twins.
Want to see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds,
but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery
took place.
"The first thing that went through my mind was that I
should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then,
after they shot me, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that
I had two choices: I could choose to live or choose to die.
I chose to live."
"Weren't you scared?" I asked. Jerry continued,
"The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was
going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the Emergency
Room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors
and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'He's
a dead man.' I knew I need to take action."
"What did you do?" I asked. "Well, there was
a big nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry. "She
asked if I was allergic to anything." 'Yes,' I replied.
The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for
my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Bullets!' Over
their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Please
operate on me as if I am alive, not dead'."
Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because
of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day
you have the choice to either enjoy your life or to hate it.
The only thing that is truly yours that no one can control
or take from you is your attitude, so if you can take care
of that, everything else in life becomes much easier. *

I have learned
by Andy Rooney
I've learned....
That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an
elderly person.
I've learned....
That when you're in love, it shows.
I've learned....
That just one person saying to me, "You've made my day!"makes
my day.
I've learned....
That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the
most peaceful feelings in the world.
I've learned....
That being kind is more important than being right.
I've learned....
That you should never say no to a gift from a child.
I've learned....
That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength
to help him in some other way.
I've learned....
That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone
needs a friend to act goofy with.
I've learned....
That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a
heart to understand.
I've learned....
That simple walks with my father around the block on summer
nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.
I've learned....
That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets
to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned....
That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask
for.
I've learned....
That money doesn't buy class.
I've learned....
That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned...
That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be
appreciated and loved.
I've learned....
That the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think
I can?
I've learned....
That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I've learned....
That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only
letting that person continue to hurt you.
I've learned....
That love, not time, heals all wounds.
I've learned....
That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround
myself with people smarter than I am.
I've learned....
That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.
I've learned....
That there's nothing sweeter than sleeping with your babies
and feeling their breath on your cheeks.
I've learned....
That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.
I've learned....
That life is tough, but I'm tougher.
I've learned....
That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones
you miss.
I've learned....
That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
I've learned....
That I wish I could have told my Dad that I love him one more
time before he passed away.
I've learned....
That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because
tomorrow he may have to eat them.
I've learned....
That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
I've learned....
That I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do
about it.
I've learned....
That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger
in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.
I've learned....
That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all
the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.
I've learned ...
That it is best to give advice in only two circumstances:
when it is requested and when it is a life-threatening situation.
I've learned....
That the less time I have to work with, the more things I
get done. *

Simple wisdom
Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark:
One -
Don't miss the boat.
Two -
Remember that we are all in the same boat.
Three -
Plan ahead...It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.
Four -
Stay fit... When you're 600 years old, someone may ask you
to do something really big.
Five -
Don't listen to critics.
Just get on with the job that needs to be done.
Six -
Build your future on high ground.
Seven -
For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
Eight -
Speed isn't always an advantage...
The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
Nine -
When you're stressed, float a while.
Ten -
Remember: The ark was built by amateurs... the Titanic by
professionals.
Eleven -
No matter the storm...when you are with God, there's always
a rainbow waiting.
And, Twelve -
Keep smiling!
