The annual "Pista ng Musika" series of karaoke contests kicked off last July 29 at Friends International Mart in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, with Kirby Virtudazo as the first winner of the monthly eliminations. Virtudazo bagged a brand new VHS player courtesy of Superstar's Cherry Honda.

The second prize went to Jason Marcelo of Tsuchiura City and his wife, Eva Marcelo, who surprisingly obtained equal scores, while the third place went to Marie Matsuyama of Ushiku City. The fourth and fifth places went to Butch Talorete and Marie Kasahara, respectively. The other participants were Nonie Salavia, Rachel Dajao, Cora Kaneki and Yoshio Sakurai. Al Detalla, Jing Santos and Joel Bandidas composed the panel of judges.
