Filipino Academician Appointed as Regular Professor at Japanese University

Prof. Leslie Bauzon

Prof. Leslie Bauzon, historian, textbook author and former dean at the University of the Philippines has been promoted from the position of a "visiting" to a "regular" professor in a decision made recently by the University of Tsukuba academic personnel committee. This approval guarantees his appointment as a regular professor at Tsukuba effective 1 April 2004, when the new academic year commences in Japan, until 31 March 2006. Prof. Bauzon teaches at the university’s graduate program in Area Studies, handling Southeast Asian history.

The Lahi Association launched its first major project, a charity bowling tournament for Bantay Bata, last November 9, 2003 in Ibaraki Pref. Aside from charity work for street-children in the Philippines, Lahi also intends to take up the cause of protecting workers’ rights as well as marital concerns of Filipinas married to Japanese. Spearheading the group that was officially inaugurated last September is Maria Rowena Ueno (second from right, 1st row), Manny Pagsisihan (standing in middle, 2nd row), Helen Kanaoka (4th from right, 1st row).

Rizalyn Kondo celebrated her birthday last January at the Riza’s Philippine Restaurant that she owns and manages in Nodori Hotel, Narita City. With her in the photo are her husband and children.
