Filipino IT workers eye Japanese market
Trade and
Industry Secretary Cesar V. Purisima said the Philippines
can win a share of Japan’s outsourcing market.
Filipino IT (information technology) professionals, the secretary
claimed, are much better than their Chinese and Indian counterparts,
who have already set foot in the highly competitive field.
A lot of companies in Japan outsource job training, information
systems programming, production processes, accounting and
tax affairs, and research and development. It is their way
to cut cost and free themselves from the hassles of managing
complex work.
Outsourcing in Japan is increasing by 7.3 percent a year,
and it is projected it will hit, by 2008, the $120 billion
mark.
The Philippines should position itself as external IT service
provider for these companies, but first a sustained marketing
and promotion campaign must be undertaken. If such campaign
is successful, Japan could become a huge market for Filipino
IT talents.
