17 more hurdle TAC-K classes; 33 UK trainees
feted
Successful participants of the Tuloy-Aral Center Kompyuter
(TAC-K) and Unlad-Kabayan (UK) Program received their certificates
of completion from Ambassador Domingo L. Siazon, Jr. during
the Independence and Migrant Workers Day on June 8 at
the Hotel Mariners Court, Tokyo.
TAC-K is the continuing computer literacy program of the
Science and Technology Advisory Council-Japan Chapter (STAC-J),
while UK is its equivalent in business/entrepreneurship. TAC-K
and UK are aimed at training overseas Filipino workers with
information technology and entrepreneurial skills, respectively.
In TAC-Ks 5th year (11th run), 12 students were able
to complete courses in Basic Computer, 2 in Web Page Design,
and 3 in Hardware. The latest (4th) UK run with 11 graduates
was conducted in partnership with the Philippine Overseas
Labor Office (POLO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration
(OWWA) with support from LandBank Tokyo.

STAC-J is announcing that the next round of training courses
will begin in September this year. Plans are also underway
to provide in-house training for Tokyo-based Filipino organizations.
This training will be customized according to the needs of
their members.
We (in STAC-J) recognize that there is a greater demand
for computer training, primarily due to personal reasons,
said Eric Paringit, STAC-J Public Relations Officer. He added
that many of our countrymen overseas want to learn the basics
of Internet and e-mail so that they could have alternative
means of communicating with their loved-ones back home and
other acquaintances elsewhere in the world.
Those interested in obtaining training from TAC-K or UK
are advised to contact Arnold at telephone number 090-3597-2860.
Over 500 Filipinos in Tokyo and nearby prefectures have participated
in TAC-K and UK programs since 1998. *
