Civic groups hold forum on absentee voting bill

A group of Filipino civic organizations in Japan is holding a forum on the absentee voting bill on June 22 at the Meguro Catholic Church in Meguro Ward, Tokyo. The Philippine Embassy is launching an awareness campaign for voter registration from July 1 to September 30 so that they can be eligible to vote in May 2004. It is enlisting the support of these organizations to promote the absentee voting bill as well as mobilize them for logistical backup in the registration procedure and elections.

Prof. Temario Rivera of the International Christian University in Tokyo will speak on the importance of the absentee voting bill. A representative from the Philippine Embassy will outline the methods and procedures of registration. Prof. Roland Tolentino of the Osaka University of Foreign Studies will moderate the activity.

Rondalla On Wheels performs in Japan

Rondalla On Wheels, an instrumental group of young handicapped men and women performed their music in front of very appreciative audiences at more than 10 venues all over the Kanto region of Japan. The concert tour was capped with a concert at Saint Ignacius Church in Yotsuya, Tokyo. Members of the Rondalla On Wheels at one time or another lived in Bahay Mapagmahal, a home for the handicapped in Quezon City, Philippines.
